Robert Lewis Elmore

NORTHPORT | Robert Lewis Elmore, age 88, of Northport, died in Coker, on Sunday, March 1, 2015. Services will be 2 p.m. on Friday, March 6, 2015 at Robertson Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Carrol Jones, Dr. James H. Hughes, and Rev. David Tunnell officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park with Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Dewey & Era Elo Elmore; his wife, Mildred Earline Elmore; sister, Gladys Tunnell; and brother, Harold ""Bup"" Elmore.

Survivors include his daughter, Bobbie Sanderson (AL) of Gordo; sister, Ola Barton; brothers, W.C. ""Tip"" Elmore, James O. Elmore, Boyd ""Jim"" Elmore, Leo Elmore, and Elbert Elmore; and grandson, Shane Sanderson (Christin) of Cottondale.

Brother Robert was born March 14, 1926 in Gordo. He was a veteran of WWII U.S. Army and served in the Philippines. Following his service, he was employed at BF Goodrich, where he was known for his dependability and good work ethic.Robert was ordained as a deacon at Rice's Valley Baptist Church and served there as a Sunday School teacher, Superintendent and Chairman of Deacons for over 45 years.He was a lover of nature who enjoyed bird hunting and fishing. The flowers he enjoyed will now bloom as a perennial reminder of his appreciation for the beauty of his Creator's workmanship. Those who knew him loved him and will remember his patience, generosity and willingness to see only the good in others, refusal to complain, and the quiet way in which he expressed his love for so many.

Pallbearers will be David Tunnell, Larry Tunnell, Danny Elmore, Dewey Elmore, Dee Tunnell, Donny Elmore, Chris Gaddy, and Matt Gaddy.

Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Douglas Reynolds, Mr. & Mrs. Hermon Pinion, friends and neighbors of Northport, members of the Robertson Chapel Baptist Church, and former co-workers of the B.F. Goodrich Plant.Condolences may be offered at www.sunsetbrown-funeral.com.
