

TUSCALOOSA | Robert (Bob) A. Smith, Jr., of Tuscaloosa, died October 7, 2013, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, October 12, 2013 at Sunset Funeral Home with Rev. David W. Phillips officiating and Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Robert A. Smith, Sr. and Marie Doyle Smith both of Manassas, Va.; mother-in-law, Emily Miller Moore; granddaughter, Katie Noel Hardin; and brother-in-law, Roger Newman.
Survivors include his wife, Emily Miller Smith of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; two brothers, Harry and Peter Smith; and a niece, Tracy Leith Lee all of Virginia. Other survivors are made up of a Loving Adopted Family, daughter, Heather Nicole Hardin of Tuscaloosa; son, John Weston Hardin and his wife Sarah Bullington Hardin of Coker; sisters, Edith Miller Newman of Tuscaloosa and Carla Miller of Demopolis; brothers, Fletcher Miller and his wife, Dee Deville Miller of Shreveport, La. and Ben Miller and his wife Susan Townzen Miller of Tuscaloosa; and grandchildren, Aislinn Hardin of Tuscaloosa and Levi Hardin of Coker; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bob was born in Stamford Conn. in 1944. Bob graduated from Randolph Macon Academy of VA in 1963. After serving his country in the USAF (during the Vietnam Conflict), he operated his own Realty company, Smith Realty of Manassas, Va. Years later, Bob moved to Jacksonville, Fla. as Manager of Radio Shack. After moving to Tuscaloosa with Radio Shack he met and married Emily. Bob and Emily had that very special, “made in heaven” relationship and loved and respected each other deeply. They cherished every moment they had together.
Later in his career, Bob worked at Lowe’s as the Garden Specialist and was loved and known as “Outside Bob.” He loved gardening and grew many beautiful plants and flowers. He was also a superb cook. After retiring Bob continued to work with Garden Vision and volunteered at the DCH Spine Center.
Bob knows Jesus as his Lord and Savior and was looking forward to being with our awesome God.
