Roy Collins Walker Jr.

Roy Collins Walker, Jr., a very special man, passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at DCH Regional Medical Center. He was known for his kindness, gentleness, honesty, humility, and generosity. Roy shared his life as a wonderful partner, a loving father, and a wonderful Granddaddy, Grandpa Roy and G-Roy and as a great friend to many.

Roy was born to Carrie O’Neal and Roy C. Walker, Sr. in Columbus, Mississippi on September 19, 1943. He moved to Tuscaloosa in the 1960’s.

Roy was a dedicated employee of the State of Alabama ABC Board for 37 years. He was well respected by his co-workers, many of whom considered him a mentor and friend. He worked his way up from the stock room to director of stores for the entire state.

Roy was well known as an avid bowler. He bowled on quite a few leagues over the years and served as league secretary for many of them. He shared his love for bowling by teaching his children and grandchildren how to bowl and coaching area youth. He was instrumental in forming leagues for “oldie goldies” (anyone over 55) and was inducted into the Tuscaloosa USBC Hall of Fame in April 2025. Anyone who knew Roy, knew that he loved to watch Westerns on TV, as well as sports including golf and Alabama Womens Softball. He also loved to go to the Mississippi casinos to play black jack. He bought lottery tickets because he said he couldn’t win if he didn’t have one!

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Carrie O’Neal and Roy C. Walker, Sr. and his brother, Donald Walker.

He is survived by his life partner, Sue Cannon; his daughter, Laurie (Scott) Sharp; his bonus children, Beth (Donevon) Loewen and Tommy (Amanda Smith) Cannon; his grandchildren, Kathryn and Daniel (Lauryn) Sharp; his bonus grandchildren, Jori, Taylor, August, Halle, and Hudson Loewen, and Walker, Jesa Leigh, and Kayson Cannon, and Isaiah Smith; and his sister-in-law, Vickie Walker.

A visitation for Roy will be held Friday, July 25, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home followed by a Celebration of Life at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.

Pallbearers are Scott Sharp, Daniel Sharp, Tommy Cannon, Eric Hamner, Josh McMahan, and August Loewen. Honorary pallbearers include friends and neighbors of Cherrydale, and all bowlers who shared Roy’s favorite sport with him.
