She was born January 20, 1940, in rural Fayette County to Veller and Beulah Clanton. She was known by several names too many; Momma, Grandma, Sis, Aunt Ruby, Mrs. Nell, and friend. That was her purpose in life, and she served it well. She made sure to let the ones around her know how much she loved them, whether it was by word, hug, or card. She was a lover of nature, especially redbirds and dogs. If you ever saw her out, she probably had a birdhouse, feeder, seed, or food in tow.
Proverbs 31 describes several characteristics of a Godly woman, but in reality it just paints a perfect picture of her. “She works with her hands.” If you knew anything about her, then you know she never used a sewing machine, so every handstitched quilt or barbie dress was made with love and prayer. If you ever were one to receive one of these, then you had a treasure. “She rises early to provide for her family.” She never let anyone around her go hungry; she’d go without before you did. She always asked, “did you eat yet” and proceeded to make her way to the kitchen. She made some of the best fried okra and fried apple pies you’ll ever eat. “She speaks with wisdom, remains faithful and trusts in the Lord.” Throughout all her trials, she remained steadfast in her faith. She carried her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and family to the Lord and laid them at his feet, even when they strayed. She held on to his promises. She placed her hope in him and trusted his will. She was one of the strongest people to ever walk the earth, even as she was taking her last breath here and her first one in Glory. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord, and she is now living the life she dreamed of for so long.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Raiford Robertson, Parents; Veller and Beulah Clanton, siblings; Joy Faye Striplin, Betty Jean Higgins, and VL Clanton, along with several other family members.
