

Samuel A. “Cornbread” McGee, age 81, of Northport, died Oct. 26, 2010, at Northport Medical Center-DCH. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Grace Church with Dr. Charles Davis and Rev. Fred Schuckert officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens with Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm, Thursday at Grace Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver W. McGee and Nancy Ann Wheat McGee; his stepmother, Elmer McGee; his sisters, Sibyl Smith and Sara McGee Ford; and his brothers, Oliver W. McGee, Jr. and Waylon McGee.
Survivors include his wife, Charlene C. McGee of Northport; his daughters, Mickey Porter (Don) and Alice McGee, both of Mobile, and Kelly Shinholster (Steve) of Northport; his sisters, Lucille Callahan of Chattanooga, Tenn., Maudell Yarbrough of Tuscaloosa, Doris Stokes andSue Hobson both of Northport; his grandchildren, Coy Arrowood, Keith Porter, Adam Porter, Caitlyn Shinholster, Todd Shinholster, and Erica Smith; and his great-grandson, Brodie.
Mr. McGee graduated from Tuscaloosa County High School and attended the University of Alabama on football scholarship. He was a member of the “A” Club. He owned Kwik Snak restaurant on the strip for 19 years. He worked for Dan Livingston Construction, as well as the Tuscaloosa County Board of Education at the Sprayberry Center in Northport. He served in the Alabama National Guard for 37 years with 15 years of active duty. He was a charter member of Grace Church.
Pallbearers will be Coy Arrowood, Keith Porter, Adam Porter, Todd Shinholster, Gary Yarbrough, and Dennis Callahan.
Honorary pallbearers are Mike Hannah, Curtis Gaskins, Dan Livingston, Art Nuckols, Tommy Brannon, Robbie Miller, Bill Callahan, Jimmy Moore, Dennis Painter, Robert Kirksey, doctors and staff of Cardiology Associates, Dr. Stephen Browne, nurses and staff of ICU and PCU at Northport Medical Center-DCH, and members of the Patton Realty family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Grace Church Building Fund.
