Shirley was born and raised in Abbeville, AL and had the opportunity to live in a number of states
throughout the U.S. before returning to her home state to settle down. She wore many hats during her
lifetime. She was a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a friend, co-worker and church member to name a
few. She was married to the love of her life Bill Lemons until his passing in 2013. She raised three
amazing children and had two beautiful granddaughters. She had many friends that she kept in touch
with over the years. She retired from Regions Bank after many years of service. She also attended Buhl
Baptist Church regularly and enjoyed listening to old-time gospel music reminiscent of her childhood.
Shirley was loving and kind, but most of all she was beautiful inside and out. She never left home or took
a picture if she wasn’t dressed with her hair and makeup done because she was a true lady and that’s
how she was raised. Besides, one never knew who one might encounter on an outing so she had to look
her best. She always had her nails manicured and her toes painted. She loved a clean house and a
freshly mowed yard. She was a good cook and passed down many recipes she loved to make for special
occasions. Family and friends always felt welcomed and loved. A few things she enjoyed were bowling,
reading, attending church, Days of Our Lives, any University of Alabama sport, dancing in the kitchen,
watching tennis, and trips to visit family. Holidays were always a highlight for her because her house was
full and so was her heart.
Shirley will truly be missed by all those who loved her, but we take comfort in knowing that she has
been reunited with her “Sweet William” and they are no doubt already dancing up a storm to that
heavenly band.
