

He was born on October 18, 1945, in Tuscaloosa, AL., to Theodore Hardin Turner, Sr. and Doris Laycock Turner. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, veteran, and friend whose life was marked by service, hard work, faith, and love for his family.
On October 15, 1965, Ted married the love of his life, Patricia "Patsy" Smelley Turner. Together they shared more than 60 years of marriage, building a life centered on faith, family, and community.
Ted proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, attaining the rank of Sergeant from 1966 to 1969. Following his military service, he began a long and successful career with NCR, working as a bank machine repairman from 1969 until 1999. He later worked as a computer analyst with EDS supporting BellSouth from 1999 until his retirement in 2005.
Throughout his life, Ted enjoyed woodworking and was known for his craftsmanship and ability to fix just about anything. He loved traveling, cheering on Alabama football, and most of all, spending time with his grandchildren. His generous spirit and practical skills made him the person family and friends could always count on.
Ted was actively involved in his community and church. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Tuscaloosa, the Double Oak Community Church Double L group, and the Tuscaloosa Woodworking Group. He also faithfully served as a deacon at Five Points Baptist Church.
Ted is survived by his beloved wife, Patsy Turner; daughter, Renee Nelson and her husband, Kevin; son, Brian Turner and his wife, Jennifer; grandchildren Zane Peacock, Audrey Peacock, Thad Peacock, Lily Cait Turner, Davis Syx, Maddox Syx, and Frances Nelson; and his brother, Phillip Turner.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore H. Turner, Sr. and Doris Laycock Turner, and his sister, Amanda Turner.
Ted will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his dedication to his family, his willingness to help others, and the quiet strength and kindness that touched everyone who knew him. His legacy lives on through the family he cherished and the many lives he influenced through his service, friendship, and love.
Visitation for Ted will be held at Sunset Funeral Home on Friday, June 26, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00 am. Burial will take place at Sunset Memorial Park.
