

NORTHPORT Trannie Mae Skelton, age 94, of Northport, died September 22, 2013, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at El Bethel (Buncum) Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Jerry Montgomery officiating and Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Floyd Skelton; parents, Martin and Mary Rogers; brothers, Victor (Bud) Rogers, James Rogers, and two brothers who died in infancy; and two sisters, Mary Gray and Bertha Mae Maddox. Survivors include her sons, James Roy Rogers (Linda) and Jackie Ray Skelton (Gloyce), both of Northport; sisters, Gertha Elliott of Northport and Dessree Smith of Pickens Co.; brothers, Claude Rogers (Dorothy) of Northport and Waymon Rogers (Nazallee); grandchildren, Jill McCormick (Dunc) of Miss., Tim Skelton (Mandy), and Jamie Mansfield (Wes) of Northport; and great-grandchildren, Anna, Noah, Katlyne, Drake, and Hunter. Her favorite hobbies were fishing (even in a wheel chair) and quilting. Wearing a bonnet, she loved to fish from the Gulf State Park Pier where the regulars affectionately called her "granny." She loved to tell stories about family and the adventures she had during her life. She will be greatly missed by all. Pallbearers will be Tim Skelton, Wes Mansfield, Ronnie Elliott, Dennis McMillian, Joe Allen Rogers, and Jimmy Rogers. Honorary pallbearers are Samantha Volunteer Fire Department, friends and neighbors of Samantha community, Varilla Brasselton, J.C. and Barbara Gilliam, June Smalley, Ethel Bigham, Eloise West, and Rev.
