TUSCALOOSA | Verna West Smith, age 88, of Tuscaloosa, died July 6, 2015, at Northport Medical Center. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 9, 2015, at Sunset Memorial Park with Pastor David Redding officiating and Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
She was preceded in death by her parents, I.C. and Della West; sister, Sue Furukawa; brothers, Omar West and Clynus West; grandson, Andrew Smith; and husband, Merle E. Smith, Jr.
Survivors include her daughter, Kathy S. Wood (Jim) of Tuscaloosa; son, Michael E. Smith (Sandra) of Huntsville; Velma W. Lucas (Buddy) of Birmingham; grandchildren, Stephen Wood (Robin), Erica W. Thompson (Tim), Dan Wood (Teresa), Cynthia W. Redding (David), Sean Kerber, Justin Kerber, Christopher Smith, Chelsea Smith, Patrick Smith, and host of great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Stephen Wood, Dan Wood, Tim Thompson, and David Redding.
Arrangements under the direction of Sunset Brown-Service Funeral Home, Northport, AL.
