Virgie Marie Bobo age 92, of Northport, passed from this life November 30, 2022. Mrs. Bobo was born April 13, 1930 in Skene, Mississippi. On March 23, 1946 she married Levon Bobo and they were married for 59 years. Virgie was known by "Peggy" to most everyone. As a small child, her father always called her "Peg."
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Ann Skinner (Ralph), Gwen Kendrick (David), Sue Hallman (Gary), Charles Bobo (Glenda) and Darrell Bobo (Brenda); six grandchildren, Donna Battle (Jon), Darlene Brewer (Mickey), Michelle Lindsey (Brian), Brian Hallman (Hilary), Dave Kendrick (Helen) and Catherine Bobo; five great grandchildren, Cameron Battle, Dylan Lindsey, Colton Lindsey, Avery Burke and Ji Young. Preceding her in death is her husband, Miles Bobo and grandson, Brad Bobo.
Celebration of Life Funeral Services were held December 3, 2022 at 11:00 AM from the chapel of Sunset Funeral Home, the Reverend Stan Hinson officiating. Visitation was held 1 hour prior to the service with interment following in Sunset Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers were Brian Hallmark, Bryan Kendrick, Cameron Battle, Dylan Lindsey, Colton Lindsey and David Dodd. Honorary pallbearers were the friends and neighbors and members of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, along with Hospice of West Alabama and Aliceville Manor.
Virgie was a wonderful wife, dedicated mother, loving grandmother and caregiver to all. If anyone came to her house hungry they always left full. She loved to cook and wanted everyone to eat. She had a love for gardening, canning and planting flowers. Her flower beds were always immaculate! After her children were grown, at the age of 48 she went to work at Pinions Green House and worked there for 26 years.
A favorite memory for all of the family was when it was time to pick and shell peas and butterbeans, shuck the corn or peel the tomatoes, all of the kids and grandkids would come together in the carport and help prepare the vegetables for freezing or canning. Purple fingers were cool back in the day. Another favorite memory was during all the family gatherings the front yard was always a baseball field. Momo would join in and play too.
Mrs. Bobo was an active member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church where she served and taught until 2020. She taught Sunday school for over 30 years in mainly the 4th and 5th grade class. She always said that is the age that children really needed to start thinking about Jesus and developing a relationship with Him.
Her favorite pastime was reading the Bible through. Many scriptures that she committed to memory were underlined or circled in her Bible. One of her favorite verses was John 3:16, even at age 92 with Dementia, she quoted this verse from memory but mainly from her heart. A verse that was always quoted at the end of her Sunday School class was Psalm 19:14; “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, Oh Lord my strength and my redeemer”. In her Bible, she drew a big circle around Revelation 22:12-14 and “PROMISE” beside it.
As the Apostle Paul wrote in 2 Timothy 4:7: “I have fought a good fight. I have finished my course. I have kept the faith.” Mom now wears a crown of righteousness because she loved the Lord and looked for his return. Rest well Mom, we will see you again.
