

NORTHPORT – Walter N. Evans, Jr. of Northport, Ala., died Friday, March 24, 2017 at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be held today, March 27, 2017 at 7 p.m. with Rev. Tim Tindle officiating and Sunset Funeral Home directing. Music provided by Don McPhail. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Evans is preceded in death by his parents, Walter N. Evans, Sr. and Necie Kicker Evans; his wife, Margaret Ann Bell Evans and his son, Walter Ross Evans. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Doshie Mae Smith; brother, Clarence J. Evans (Polly); sister-in-law, Karen Bell Dollar; and brother-in-law, Royal Hatch.
He loved his family dearly and is survived by his sons, George N Evans (Judy), Bob Evans (Teri); grandchildren, Nick Evans (Jamie), Josh Evans (Jena), Jessica Ann Phillips (Hunter), Ashley Evans and Hunter Evans; great-grandchildren, Miller, Fisher and Silas Evans; Rhett and Annabelle Phillips; brothers-in-law, Chester R. Smith and Joe Dollar; sisters-in-law, Doris Bell Hatch, Brenda Bell Patrick (Bill); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Evans was born October 9, 1930 in Tuscaloosa, Ala. He graduated from Tuscaloosa County High School in 1949 and attended The University of Alabama on a basketball scholarship where he played the position of guard. After graduation he served in the United States Army as First Lieutenant stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia. He was manager of West Alabama Furniture Company until it closed.Mr. Evans was actively involved in the Jaycees and the exhausted Roosters Club. He was a charter member of Woodland Forest Country club where he was an avid golfer.
