Wayne Taylor Davis was born in Opelika, Alabama on November 27,1946, in a Quonset Hut. He was born to Warren Audrey Davis(Father) and Annie Bea Taylor (Mother). He has 2 sisters, Jeanna Kay Davis(Mike Wojack) and Diana Jan Davis (Stan Stricklen).
Wayne Taylor Davis met Betty Busby while working together at Piggly Wiggly. Betty, knowing what she wanted, took it upon herself to ask Wayne on a date to a nearby park. Over breakfast, they became enamored with each other and so began their love story. She invited him to her home, where Wayne heard two handsome boys (David and Rick Davis) playing. Wayne later learned the two children were hers and he accepted them as his own and adopted them. They married on July 11th of 1976 at Little Sandy Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa, AL. They were blessed with 47 remarkable years together. They welcomed two more children into the world together (Kimberly Harris and Jonathan Davis). He was graciously blessed with four wonderful grandchildren (Amber Bush, Taylor Harris, Damien Weaver, and Raymond Harris).
Wayne loved going over to Hardees in the morning to have a Gravy biscuit and a senior drink and spend time with the Hardee boys. He worked in the Groceries Business for 40 plus years. He enjoyed raising animals. When we were growing up, he had lots of Pigeon's, rabbits, honeybee hives and many more animals. He also loved to garden. He made sure that his children knew how to use the tiller and the tools in the shop. He had his kids help with picking up all the pecans and help shell. He went to the feed store for squash seeds and when he planted and they came up, they were not squash, they were pumpkins. He had a yard full 2 and a half months before Halloween he was trying to figure out what to do with them. He used to build in his shop lots of wood working things. He would take David and Ricky and help them build their model train sets on the wooden table. He loved watching westerns, going to Bird shows and traveling. In his lifetime, he would sit and write all sorts of stories that he came up with.
He enjoyed family gatherings such as Thanksgiving and Christmas, where he would get to spend time and tell his stories with his family and grand kids. Some of the life lessons he taught were how to be kind, hardworking and dedicated. He always made time for his kids even though he worked a hard day's work no matter how he felt. He would make sure his kids had everything before himself. He had a saying for every story he told. You haven’t heard this one and told you a funny story.
A visitation for Wayne will take place on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at 10:00 AM and burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
