Bill was a retired lieutenant from the Tuscaloosa Fire Department. Most of his 26 years of service was at station 1 and later station 4. He loved his job and his firefighter family. He once said he loved his job because he was always around people and was able to help care for them and their needs. He continued to attend retirement breakfasts monthly as much as possible. His fireman friends nicknamed him Tonto because he had Indian blood. He served as the president and vice president of the local union and advocated for their rights at Montgomery.
Bill was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was always willing to jump in and help his family and friends whenever there was a need. He was known by all his grandchildren as Poppy and he loved playing pranks on them. We can hear him laughing as he did it. He had a gentle kind spirit that loved the Lord. He was a member of Carroll’s Creek Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be cherished loved ones.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Tuscaloosa Fire Rescue and retires, Hospice of West Alabama, DCH Nurses and Dr Katona.
