Brett was born on February 15, 1999, in Evanston, Illinois where he spent his early childhood before the family put down roots in the north county community of San Diego. Brett attended La Costa Canyon High School, where he thrived as a varsity athlete - playing both defensive end and running back positions on the Mavericks football team and specializing in the short sprints on the varsity track team. Even at an early age, those who knew him then saw what would define him throughout his life: a relentless work ethic and a quiet determination to give everything he had.
That same drive carried Brett to the University of California, San Diego, where he earned a B.A. in Economics, and then on to the University of Southern California, where he completed both an MBA from the Marshall School of Business and an MS in Industrial and Systems Engineering from the Viterbi School of Engineering.
Brett began his career at Northrop Grumman while still finishing his graduate studies, and over the years he worked his way from intern to Senior Principal Proposal Analyst - a trajectory that reflected not just his talent, but his character. He was the kind of teammate people counted on not simply to get the job done, but to go beyond what was asked. He built genuine relationships at work, always willing to lend a hand, always showing up fully. To his colleagues, he wasn’t just a reliable coworker but a trusted friend.
Outside of the office, Brett’s heart belonged to his family. His bonds with his siblings Elly, Andy, and Matt were among the most precious relationships of his life. Brett organized what was meant to be the first of many annual siblings ’trips, a getaway to Pismo Beach just this past year. Growing up in a family that enjoyed playing games together, he regularly enjoyed the time around the table playing board games with family - with the normal family squabbles over rules of course!
Brett had a passion for the things that made him uniquely him - he had watched every version of the Pokémon series, was an expert in Star Wars lore from the original trilogy to the latest spin-offs and had an impressive collection of over twenty Monopoly editions. He built Lego sets and played way more Madden than he’d probably ever admit.
Brett led the way for his siblings, always showing up when needed and never hesitating to say yes for family. He was well known for his homemade pizzas, crafted with care and shared generously with the people he loved most. He loved his golden retriever, Apollo, who was his best friend.
Brett is survived by his parents Emily Merryweather and Rick Pueschel, beloved siblings Elly (Pueschel) Keen, Andy Pueschel, and Matt Pueschel along with numerous extended family members and cherished friends.
Brett will be remembered for his ambition, his loyalty, and most importantly the heart he brought to the relationships that were dear to him. He will be deeply missed.
The family would like to thank everyone in the community for your support, care and connection. We will be holding a private memorial but ask that you consider a donation in Brett’s honor to Laughing Pony Rescue, an organization whose work reflects the best parts of Brett where we can do the most good.
