David "Doc" Ajemian, a cherished soul known for his generosity, sharp humor, and adventurous spirit, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2025, in the loving arms of his wife, Bonnie Ajemian after a short illness. He was 61 years old.
Born on February 13, 1964, in Aberdeen, Maryland, and raised in Liverpool, New York, David spent his formative years working for his father, Ronald, who co-owned the Liverpool Golf Course, where he honed his work ethic. A proud graduate of Liverpool High School (with Honors!), SUNY Geneseo with a Bachelor’s degree, he carried a sharp mind, incredible charisma and a restless spirit. In pursuit of adventure, David left Liverpool for New York City before settling in Los Angeles in 1995, where after a stint at Barney's Beanery he found his true calling as the co-owner with Bonnie of "The Scene," a beloved bar in North Hollywood, California. Under his stewardship, "The Scene" became a legendary gathering spot—a place where laughter rang out, friendships were forged, and every patron felt like family. Doc’s charisma and genuine care left an indelible mark on the North Hollywood community.
David’s greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Ajemian (née Gisel), with whom he shared a life filled with love and laughter; his parents, Ronald and Dorothy Ajemian; his birth mother, Sandra Lehti-Culjak; his brothers, Peter (Lisa) Ajemian and Michael (Carolyn) Ajemian; his father- and mother-in law George and Alberta Gisel, his brother-in-law George Jr (Jennifer), sister-in-law Sherri (Tom) and he was a proud uncle to his nieces and nephews, Katie, Zoey, Presley, Max, Scott, Kate, Jack, Kellie, Sam, James and Jordan, delighting in their growth and sharing his boundless curiosity and habit of torturing them with much love. He leaves behind a wide circle of friends and regulars from "The Scene" who became his extended family.
A Celebration of Life, open to all friends and family, will take place on Saturday, March 15, 2025, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Bastian & Perrott, Oswald Mortuary, located at 18728 Parthenon St., Northridge, CA. The celebration will also be streamed on YouTube. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ASPCA reflecting David’s generous spirit and his love for his kitties Marley, Milky and Bear.
Rest in peace, Doc—from the fairways of Liverpool to the barstools of North Hollywood, your numerous sayings and charm will live on.
