Born February 13, 1929, in Milwaukee, WI, as an only child to parents Rufus & Violet Stuhr, Doug’s early years were spent in Evanston and Oak Park, IL. He proudly participated in the ROTC program in High School and his favorite classes were Art and Woodworking. Doug was very creative and artistic throughout his life and loved drawing, painting and building things.
He graduated High School in 1947, and had attended college for a short time before enlisting in the Army in 1948. Doug served as a Sergeant with the Military Police until 1950.
Doug was an avid war buff, and loved all things military. He started collecting military soldiers as a young boy and built an expansive collection throughout his life. He also collected model classic cars.
Throughout the years, Doug cherished being in the company of his beloved dogs BJ, Buttons, Peanut and Reggie. When home, he was rarely seen without a small dog on his lap or beneath his chair. He was also a dedicated protector of animals of all kinds, supporting many animal related charities.
Doug was the nicest, kindest person you would ever meet! He was known for making friends everywhere he went. Close friends later in life included Walt Wilson, Scott Perry, Lee Ritzler and Mike Burg, but a great many people called Doug their friend.
In his professional life, Doug started in sales with Shop Smith Power Tools in Chicago, which ultimately relocated him to California. He was with Pitney Bowes for 15 years where he was a Major Account Executive and Sales Manager. Later in life, Doug obtained his Real Estate license and partnered with his wife Marian as active and successful Realtors. Doug loved the real estate business and serving their clients, and retired as a Realtor at the age of 80 years old.
Doug was very involved at St. Euphrasia Church in Granada Hills, and later the Temecula Valley Elks, where he proudly served for several years as a dedicated board member and officer.
Favorite vacations included spending time in San Diego and Temecula, the latter where he & Marian had later purchased a second home. They eventually moved full time to Temecula, where they lived for approximately 12 years before relocating to Camarillo in 2018 to be closer to family.
Doug is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Marian. They married on March 24, 1989 at Chapel of The Fountain in Las Vegas.
He is also survived by his children Robert Stuhr, Tom Stuhr, Sandy Peck, Roger Stuhr, Pam Schuberg and Kim Desmond, as well as Marian’s children Barrie Corenman and her husband Terry, and David Wolloch and his wife Lysa.
He was blessed with 15 Grandchildren and 5 Great Grandchildren on the Stuhr side, plus 3 Grandchildren on Marian’s side, Nikki, Jordyn and Brandon Corenman.
One of his favorite things to do was to have weekly, rotating, “Special Days” with younger Nikki, Jordyn and Brandon, where one of their favorite activities was to paint plaster statues of animals and more, which Doug enjoyed doing as much as the kids.
Doug passed away peacefully on December 2, 2020. Services will be held at 12:00 PM on December 7th at Oakwood Memorial Park in Chatsworth, California, where he will be laid to rest.
