

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gary (Karyofillis) Stavros Goutsos, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Gary passed away on September 13, 2025, at the age of 87.
Born on April 16, 1938, in Athens, Greece, Gary grew up with a passion for history, nature, children, animals and a deep love for his community. He grew up on the island of Evia in the town of Nea Artaki and after graduating from high school, he came to live with his Aunt and Uncle in the United States.
Gary met his wife, Chrys, at a baptism in New York, taught himself English, and put himself through school at New York University in the School of Commerce to earn a Bachelor's Degree. He worked many years in banking and became a mortgage broker later in life. Active in his church community at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, he sang in the choir.
Once he retired, Gary and his wife spent half the year between California and Greece. They moved to Alabama in 2022.
Gary is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Chrys Goutsos; his two children, Maria Harrington (Emmett) and Stacey Halverstadt (Bob); his five grandchildren, Steven, Chrystie, Melissa, Benjamin, and Andrew; his two great-grandchildren, Sierra and Ezlo; and his brother, Sophocles Goutsos. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stavros and Eleni Goutsos, and daughter, Eleni Goutsos.
Viewing will be held on Thursday, October 16th between 4:00-8:00p at Bastian & Perrott, Oswald Mortuary – 18728 Parthenia Street, Northridge, CA with prayers beginning at 6:30.
Funeral service will be on Friday, October 17th at 10:00a at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Northridge, CA – 9501 Balboa Blvd, Northridge
Burial will be immediately after the service at Oakwood Memorial Park 22601 Lassen Street, Chatsworth, CA
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Gary's honor to the Dementia Society of America, St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Northridge, CA or Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Lancaster, CA.
Gary will be remembered for his generosity, his dedication to family, and his unwavering faith. His spirit lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
