Joseph Anthony Mauro, known as Bud or Buddy by his family and friends, died peacefully on May 3, 2026, at his home in Granada Hills, California, after an extended illness.
Bud was born to Anthony and Alvina Mauro of Monessen, Pennsylvania, on October 2, 1940. Bud was a second-generation Italian American with humble beginnings who enlisted in the United States Air Force after high school, which sent him from a small town outside of Pittsburgh to Victorville, California, assigned as Air Police at George Air Force Base. It was this posting and subsequent attendance at a local dance social that led to his meeting the love of his life, Roberta Lee Krumm, the California girl from San Bernardino, California, who became his wife on October 7, 1961.
After Bud’s Honorable Discharge from the USAF, he and Roberta would eventually move their growing family to Granada Hills in 1971, buying the home that they would share together until the day of his passing, some 55 years later.
In 1971, Bud would also find his true calling: A career in Real Estate. He obtained his real estate license and then his broker’s license. Over the next 50 years he helped match so many clients with their dream homes. But Bud was never one to rest on his laurels. He was active within the San Fernando Valley Board of Realtors then the Southland Regional Association of Realtors (SRAR). He served as President of SRAR in 1998, leaving a legacy of service and commitment to the real estate profession. Bud served eleven terms on the Board of Directors, actively participating in numerous policy committees that helped shape the direction and governance of the SRAR. Bud was the State Director between 1995 and 2004, serving an important role in advancing the interests of REALTORS® beyond the local community. Bud was very proud of the highly successful weekly networking meeting he created and nurtured that brought various professionals together, fostering lasting relationships.
Bud’s sense of community did not stop there. He was an avid defender of Proposition 13-1978 and a political crusader against high taxes and wasteful government spending. He loved a good debate on the issues and current events.
He was also a past-member of the Community-Police Advisory Board for the Los Angeles Police Department’s Devonshire Area.
Bud’s spare time (Yes! He had spare time) would be spent with his many other hobbies: He was a skilled chess player. A marksman-level dart player. A ping-pong player with a killer serve and an unbeatable spike. A Monopoly land baron. His love of competition held no bounds. But he also had another hobby that highlighted his skill as a masterful gardener, growing fruits and vegetables, flowers and other greenery that adorned the yards of his home.
He was the Pittsburgh Steelers Number One Fan, and his whooping and hollering at his team’s successes while watching a game was renowned.
But Bud’s greatest hobbies were his children and grandchildren, about whom he was very proud, and he would boast and brag about them to all who would listen.
Bud is survived by his beloved wife, Roberta, his children Lorraine, Maria (husband RJ), and Joseph (wife Lori), his grandchildren Thomas (wife Heather), Amy, Kaitlan and Alyssa, his great-grandchildren Connor, Caleb and Ryland; his sisters Dolly and Loretta, his sister-in-law Ginny; and his many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Bud was preceded in death by his father and mother, Anthony and Alvina, his brothers-in-law Yunny and Fergie, his younger brother Larry, and his son-in-law Tim. His family finds comfort in his passing that he is reunited with them in heaven. Alleluia!
As per his wishes, Bud was cremated and no service or memorial will be held.
