Ke Sang YI
May 18, 1939 – November 3, 2020
It is with profound sadness that our family announces the passing of Ke Sang Yi on November 3rd, 2020.
His life is the embodiment of the American Dream. Ke Sang was born in South Korea in 1939 and immigrated to the United States in 1975 with his wife, 6-year old daughter, and 3-year old son. The family arrived in Los Angeles, CA with a total of $800. He started building his dream as soon as he arrived. He painted the exterior of apartment buildings in the daytime and worked on a janitorial crew that cleaned office buildings overnight. On weekends he sold various items at swap meets throughout the Los Angeles area. After a few years, he became a small business owner when he purchased a garment manufacturing factory. With his hard work ethics and perseverance, he was able to move his family from a small apartment in Koreatown to a house in the San Fernando Valley. Later, he sold his garment manufacturing factory and opened a check cashing/postal mailbox store in Reseda, CA which he owned/operated for the next 25 years. He was able to comfortably provide for his family throughout the years, including supporting both of his children through college at UCLA. He was an avid golfer, a diehard fan of the South Korean National Soccer team, and Manchester United, but he loved his family and especially his granddaughters most of all.
Ke Sang is survived by his wife, Heung Sook Yi, his children, Susette Yi-Ries (husband Ted Ries), and Kevin Yi (wife Emily Yi); and his beloved granddaughters, Evelyn Yi and Karalyn Yi. He is also survived by his brother, three sisters, nieces and nephews and their children.
A graveside funeral will be held 1:30 PM Friday, November 13th, 2020 at Forest Lawn Glendale.
Due to the COVID19 PANDEMIC, a mask is required at the funeral. To be safe please remember to adhere to the six foot social distancing.
