Born in Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo, Philippines, Leda Palma Carencia was the daughter of the late Santos and Purificacion (Panaguiton) Palma, growing up alongside her siblings, Lucy, Cito, Junie. As the youngest girl in the family, her siblings, as well as several others in the community, endearingly called her “Nene.” She spoke often and highly about growing up with her family in the Philippines.
Leda's passion for education led her to earn a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from the University of San Agustin in the Philippines, where she later became an adored teacher in Cebu City.
In 1978, Leda embraced a new chapter in America, and shortly after transitioned from a devoted Nurse's Aide to a skilled phlebotomist, dedicating almost three decades to Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center, Dignity Health - Northridge Hospital Medical Center, and Valley Presbyterian Hospital. Her genuine desire to help and uplift others not only defined her career, but her personal life.
Leda met her husband of 45 years, Romeo, in 1970, and the two were married on January 20, 1979. Romeo lovingly referred to her as “Mommy” after they welcomed their two children, Rosalie and Rollie, both of whom she loved deeply. She was also a loving mom to her two son-in-laws, Bob (Rosalie) and Michael (Rollie). Beyond her immediate family, Leda extended her love to nieces and nephews, cousins, community members, and friends. Her nieces and nephews, in particular, were affectionately referred to as “Pangga,” translated as her loves. She embraced everyone with open arms, treating them as part of her own family.
An active member of her community and a known socialite, Leda was everybody’s friend. She was truly a beacon of joy, with her shining positivity, lighthearted sense of humor, and spontaneous dance moves. She easily made friends wherever she went, whether it was Lakeview Terrace family parties, school functions, or Fresenius Medical Care.
Leda’s favorite pastimes included watching Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, Family Feud, and Dancing with the Stars. You could always rely on Leda to tell you a silly joke or a captivating story. She also loved karaoke, with her favorite songs being “Sad Movies” and “Do-Re-Mi.” She was an avid shopper, which was evident by her stylish wardrobe. Leda fully embraced her role as a beloved Lola to her grand-pups, Remus, Jasper, Luna, and Ritchie. But above all else, Leda loved spending time and creating cherished memories with her husband, children, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Leda's life at the Visitation on Sunday, February 4, 2024, from 12pm - 4pm at Bastian & Perrott, Oswald Mortuary, 18728 Parthenia St, Northridge. The Funeral Mass and Catholic Burial will take place on Monday, February 5, 2024, starting at 10:30am at Mission San Fernando Rey de España, 15151 San Fernando Mission Blvd, Mission Hills.
In lieu of flowers, the Carencia Family welcomes memorial donations at 14801 Nordhoff Street, #219, Panorama City, CA 91402. Your compassionate expressions of sympathy are profoundly appreciated by the family during this time.
May Leda's lively spirit continue to provide joy in our hearts, and may she rest in eternal peace.
