Mona was born in Cairo in August 1953, to Isis Soliman and Safwat Kamel, the only daughter of four children. As a vibrant young woman, she helped her father establish a local church, thus beginning her lifelong dedication of service. Mona and her three brothers, Maher, Hisham and Maged, shared a loving childhood, growing even closer after their father’s passing.
Mona met and married Mounir Ghali at Cairo University. In their nearly fifty years of marriage, they built a family rooted in love, faith, and joy, as they raised their three sons, Shady, Hany, and Fady. Powered by her unconditional love, wisdom and unwavering belief in their potential, Shady, Hany, and Fady have gone on to build strong careers and families with their wives, Barbara, Teresa, and Colleen. Each and every day, Mona covered her family, including her five beloved grandchildren -- Joshua (19), Josiah (13), Amelia (13), Naomi (9), and Cleo (6) -- with her love and prayers.
After moving to the United States in 1996, Mona became a cornerstone of the Arabic Church in Temple City and Whittier. Mona was a tireless servant, a powerful prayer warrior, and a warm, supportive friend.
Mona passed on to heaven on March 5, 2026. She was 72 years of age. Mona and Mounir would have celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary this July. Even in her last days, Mona was a light to us all, loving, kissing, and joking with those around her.
Mona was a center of gravity in her family and in our community. She filled each room with her laughter and wit. She welcomed each of us with a firm embrace and generous spirit. As a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and dear, dear friend, she made God’s love tangible here on earth. Today, we celebrate the vibrant life Mona lived and the limitless joy she shared with all of us.
"A Celebration of Life" will be held at Arabic Evangelical Church Whittier, 8109 Greenleaf Avenue, Whittier, California, on March 15, 2026, beginning at 3:30 pm.
Flowers may be sent to the church.
