Polyvios left his last breath peacefully in his wife’s arms after a 9-year-long battle with ALS on May 1st at 11:30 am but his presence will always be with us and his legacy will never die. He will never be a part of the past.
Polyvios is a simple, elegant, honest, strong, humble man, full of life and energy. As one of his old friends, Mark said, “he is an amazing human being, he is a warrior and a champion, he is and always will be a great man. Nothing but LOVE”. He lived every moment of his 57 amazing years to the fullest. Even in his last moments, he was helping to organize the family's daily responsibilities with finances and his daughters’ schools. He walked into the room and captured everyone’s attention in seconds with his strong, beautiful, and funny personality. He is quick-witted and he was happy to share his knowledge about topics that other people were interested in, as well as using his incredible sense of humor to make their day.
He never feared work or any life challenges. His level of energy and positivity exuded far beyond everyone else in his life. He started working at the age of 12 years old as a paperboy. He worked at Baskin-Robbins as a teenager with his two best friends Kevin and Mark and he always loved to share their stories with his wife and children later in life. After he earned his bachelor's degree in History he decided to change his path, becoming a Railroad Engineer for Union Pacific until he met his wife Eleni. He then realized that he didn’t want to miss any minute of this precious time with his family so he became a Housing Deputy Assessor for the City of Los Angeles and later a Housing Inspector for the Housing Authority. In addition to this, Polyvios worked as a Real Estate Appraiser, and Real Estate Broker which allowed him not only to support his family but to do what he always enjoyed doing, helping relatives and friends become successful. He also was part of At-risk youth programs to help homeless young girls and boys who moved to Los Angeles only to find themselves in hard times.
His Life Motto was Everything is Everything. Every moment counts. Be grateful and always have Love and Faith.
This is what gave him the strength to fight the hardest battle, ALS. A merciless disease or in Polyvio's perspective the disease that gives you the gift of time to change your perspective and focus in life. “It is a paradigm shift” he used to say, “unfortunately it is wasted on dying people.” He knew that he and the people who loved him had a lot of lessons to learn through his journey, and like Odysseus he wanted his journey to be long. Polyvios was always goal driven, laser-focused and that’s exactly how he became an ‘outlier’ as an ALS patient. He knew exactly what he wanted, how he wanted it, and how to get it. When his doctor told him that he probably will not see his two beautiful girls, his masterpieces, graduating high school his focus became to prove the doctor wrong. The doctor made his prognosis and God laughed. He was very successful. He saw his first daughter, Genna not only graduating high school during Covid but he also drove with her to her college to help her move in. He kept his promise to his wife to celebrate her 50th birthday and their 25th wedding anniversary together. He helped his second daughter Mary complete her College application and get accepted to UCSB and he left to meet his creator peacefully at his home the way he wanted. He lived life on his own terms.
While survived by his wife Eleni, and his two daughters Genna and Mary, his loss is felt no less acutely by his mother Eugenia, his father Nick, his brother Kosta and his nieces and nephews Stephanie, Nikki, and Christo, his sisters-in-law Nellie, Anna, and Margaret and his brother in law Dimitri as well as his aunt and his cousins and nephews from Greece. As the youngest cousin in his family, he was always the life of the family dinners. He is an amazing role model to every life he has touched.
Due to the fact that he has touched so many lives, the family would welcome those that have fond memories, pictures, or other messages about Polyvios they’d like to share to do so via email at [email protected].
