Tuesday, February 25, 2014, surrounded by her loving family.
Violet was born on November 19, 1919, in Chicago, IL, to Roy and Olga Neufeldt. She married
the love of her life, Anthony Joseph “Tony” Accomando, on September 28, 1940, in Chicago,
and together they had three children, Carol, Barbara, and Raymond.
Violet worked as a secretary for five attorneys during the first six years of her marriage. Once
she had children, she was the typical stay-at-home mother of the 1950s and 1960s. In the
mid-1960s, Violet returned to the workforce out of necessity when her husband suffered
debilitating back injuries and couldn’t work for several years. She got a job as an intake worker
for the Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services, and she retired from that job
in 1976.
In 1952, Violet and Tony moved their family from Chicago to Southern California’s San
Fernando Valley, living first in a rental unit in Van Nuys for a year and then buying a home in
Granada Hills, where they lived for seven years. In 1960, Violet and Tony bought a home in
Northridge, where Violet lived until her death.
Violet enjoyed life to the fullest, and she had such a positive attitude toward everything in life,
even in her darkest hours. She loved to talk to everyone everywhere she went, and she loved to
tell jokes and stories. She was a piano player her entire life, and she enjoyed knitting, sewing,
crocheting, doing genealogical research, doing word-search puzzles, playing solitaire, and
playing Bingo at the Wilkinson Senior Center in Northridge.
Violet was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years in 1996, her son, Raymond
Accomando, in 2013, and her special friend, A. J. Cosindas, just four days prior to her death.
She is survived by her daughters, Carol (Bitner) Winckler of Agoura Hills, CA, and Barbara
Huber of Valencia, CA; her grandchildren, Michael Winckler of Agoura Hills, CA, Brian
(Kimberly) Winckler of Silver Lake, CA, Jessica Huber of Raleigh, NC, Joshua (Astrid) Huber of
Columbus, OH, and Alicia (Jerrimy) Healy of Bremerton, WA; and her great-grandchildren,
Milo, Ginger, and Hudson Winckler (Brian’s children), and Ingrid Huber (Joshua’s daughter).
Another Huber great-granddaughter is due to be born in about four weeks.
