She was born in Lisbon, CT on October 14, 1914 to the late Felix and Teophelia (Eber) Prokop. Adviga went to work at a very young age and continued that ethic until just recently. In 1937 she married Alexander Walmsley who predeceased her in 2001.
Adviga was a “liberated woman” long before that movement ever began. While raising a family and maintaining her home, she worked tirelessly in the textile industry at various mills all while staying active in her church, the Order of the Eastern. She even began her own craft business in entrepreneurial fashion at the age of 85. She showered her family and friends with unconditional love and devotion. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother, famous for her Nana hugs. She was loved and admired by all who knew her and a wonderful example for us all.
She is survived by her children; Bill & Jane Walmsley of Florida, Alexandra & Ron Malone, Henry Walmsley and his wife Sarah Cary, Frank & Lynne Walmsley, one brother; Henry Prokop Sr. of Arizona, fifteen grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren, and nine great-great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews and countless friends. Besides her husband, Adviga was also predeceased by Barbara & Joe Healy, one son, Alexander Walmsley, four brothers and three sisters.
Calling hours will be held Sunday evening from 5pm-7pm at Church & Allen Funeral Home, 136 Sachem St., Norwich, CT. Funeral Services will be held on Monday at 11am at Christ Episcopal Church, 78 Washington St., Norwich, CT meeting directly at church. Burial to immediately follow at Maplewood Cemetery, Norwich.
In lieu of flowers, Adviga requested memorial donation be made to Christ Church.
