Barbara Calvin

She was born December 30, 1938 in Norwich, the daughter of Louise (Bedat) Ladd and the late Bruce Ladd.

She was a 1956 graduate of Norwich Free Academy.

She married the late Herbert Calvin September 27, 1958 at the Leffingwell Baptist Church. He passed away February 2, 2005.

She had worked as a receptionist for Dr. Pastel’s ophthalmology office until her retirement.

She was a member of the Leffingwell Baptist Church, where she served as choir director and organist for many years. She also taught Sunday school as well as served on the Women’s Fellowship committee and was in charge of the “Friendly Folk Club” at the church.

She loved music, was an avid reader, and a Red Sox and UCONN Women’s basketball fan. She was a talented cake decorator who was known for her beautiful wedding cakes.

She was a wonderful daughter, wife, mother, sister and friend to many and will be greatly missed.

In addition to her mother Louise Ladd, she is survived by her daughters Deborah Birk and husband Howard, Diane Carr and Anthony Corcella, brother Bruce A. Ladd and wife Jacquie, grandson Hunter Birk and by several nieces and one nephew.

A funeral service will be held at the Leffingwell Baptist Church, 388 Salem Turnpike, Bozrah CT 06334 on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at 11 am. A calling hour will be held one hour prior from 10 to 11 am at the church. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery.

Memorial donations in Barbara Calvin’s memory may be made to the Leffingwell Baptist Church or to the American Cancer Society, 238 West Town St. Norwich CT 06360.
