Carl Henry Fleming, 93, of Preston, CT passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 29 at Colonial Rehab center in Plainfield, CT. He was born June 9, 1929 to William and Mary (Ladd) Fleming. He worked for the State of CT Dept. of Transportation until his retirement.
He was married to Elaine Legassey on June 2, 1948 until her passing on December 17, 2016. After retirement, Carl and Elaine relocated to Frostproof, FL where he worked for Ben Hill Griffin Inc. He was a lifelong member of the Greeneville Congregational Church where he spent many hours lending a helping hand. Carl was also a high ranking member of the Freemasons both in Norwich, CT and Frostproof, FL for many years. His favorite pastimes were cooking, doing clambakes, gardening and frequent trips to the dog-track and casinos.
Carl is survived by two daughters, Linda (Arthur Peck) of Preston, CT and Annette (Daniel Stockwell) of Preston, CT and a son, William Albert Fleming III (Elizabeth Ann) of Conway, SC. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Brian Peck, Timothy Peck, Kristen Peck, Laurie Bentley, Katie Zannini, Thomas Hamel, and Stephen Lanphear and 7 great-grandchildren and brothers, John and Fred.
Besides his wife, Elaine, Carl was predeceased by daughter, Janet Lanphear, granddaughter, Jill Lanphear, sister, Ruth, and brothers, William, Reuben, James, Roy, Richard, and Paul.
Calling Hours for Carl will be held December 4 from 5-8 PM at the Church & Allen Funeral Home, 136 Sachem St. Norwich, CT. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Greeneville Congregational Church, 143 Prospect St. Norwich, CT 06360
