

Celia (Hankin) Hochman, age 96, of Norwich, passed away at William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich on June 15, 2016. She was born in Norwich on August 20, 1919 to the late Max and Rose (Levin) Hankin. She was married to Moe Hochman who predeceased her in 1996
Celia and her husband owned and operated Universal Grocery Store in Groton for many years. She was a member of the Norwich Jewish Seniors and Brothers of Joseph Synagogue. She also volunteered at William W. Backus Hospital for over 30 years.
She is survived by a son Jeffrey Hochman of Norwich, a brother Dr. Lester Hankin of Hamden, and numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by a brother Herman Hankin and a sister Annette Schadick.
A graveside service will be held at Brothers of Joseph Cemetery, Route 12 in Preston TODAY at 1:30 p.m. Donations may be made in Celia’s honor to the Jewish Federation of Eastern CT, 28 Channing St., New London, CT 06320, the United Cerebral Palsy of Eastern CT, 42 Norwich Road, Quaker Hill, CT 06375 or William W.
