¬Ledyard-Charles M. Allerton, age 98, of Ledyard, formerly of Texas, passed away on March 6, 2012 at Apple Rehab in Mystic. He was born on August 23, 1913 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to the late Raymond and Emma (Baldwin) Allerton. He married his loving wife Charlotte (Hacker) Allerton on June 25, 1939 in Carmen, Oklahoma. She predeceased him.
Charles was a U.S. Army veteran and received the Purple Heart while serving in the South Pacific during World War II. He worked for the US Postal Service as a Postal Transportation Clerk for the Railway Mail Service.
He is survived by a daughter Laura Uschmann and her husband Stuart of Ledyard, grandchildren Rebecca Frechette, Elizabeth Geer and her husband Kenneth, Alison Miller and her husband Ed, Nathan Uschmann and his wife Katherine, Christopher Gordon and his wife Maury, Eric Gordon and his wife Julie, and Brian Gordon as well as his step grandchildren Chris Uschmann, Susan Jenkins and her husband Brian, David Uschmann and his wife Fiona and Anne Walker and her husband Jorge. He also leaves behind great grandchildren Amanda and Terry Frechette, Jacob and Silas Geer, Meagan and Ryan Miller, Percy, Byron, Hannah and Madeline Gordon and step great grandchildren Phillip and Stephen Jenkins, Alexander, Joshua, and Victoria Uschmann. He is predeceased by a daughter Virginia Gordon, and brothers Myron, Robert and Jack Allerton.
