

Charlotte Allen, 87 of Colchester, formerly of Bozrah passed away on Monday, March 27th at Hartford Hospital. She was born on March 17th, 1936 in Hartford, CT on St. Patrick’s Day. She was the daughter of the late Carolyn (Beebe) Thom. Charlotte attended school systems in West Hartford, CT & West Springfield, MA before moving to Norwich, CT. As a child, Charlotte spent summers in Maine at the Wavus camp in Jefferson, Maine. She enjoyed summer camp so much that she returned many years later with her older sister Connie to visit the camp. Charlotte graduated from Norwich Free Academy in 1954 & continued her education at Morse Business School in Hartford.
Charlotte worked in the Banking industry, worked for Edwards Supermarket & worked as a waitress for many years at Friendly’s in Norwichtown, CT. She enjoyed waiting on her customers at Friendly’s & was very popular. Charlotte was an experienced swimmer & enjoyed swimming during the summer at her residence in Gardner Lake in Bozrah. She also enjoyed ice skating at Gardner Lake during the winter season. Her passion for ice skating carried over to watching Figure Skating on TV during the winter months and watching figure skating competition during the Winter Olympics. Charlotte was a member of the Woodman Farm Association at Gardner Lake for many years. She enjoyed bird watching in her yard and loved to watch beautiful butterflies on her property during the summer months. Charlotte had a large a collection of butterfly memorabilia. Charlotte was a member of the Leffingwell Baptist Church in Bozrah. She enjoyed getting together @ Bozrah Pizza on the last Thursday of each month with a group of church members called Friendly Folks.
Charlotte was predeceased by her sisters Constance Bradley & Carol Bloomquist. She is survived by sisters Carmen McKee of Hamden, CT & Eleanor Eccleston of Norwich, CT. Charlotte leaves 3 children, John Willey of Rutherford, NJ, Kathleen Willey & partner Gary of Colchester & Donald Willey Jr & Helen of Uncasville; three grandchildren Samantha Willey & partner Juan, James Henderson & wife Ana & Mary Henderson, 2 great grandchildren, Emma & Sophia, several nieces & nephews; as well as many extended family & friends.
The family will receive guests from 1 – 2 pm on Friday, April 14th at the Church & Allen Funeral Home in Norwich, before a Chapel Service officiated by minister Gary Poorman at 2 pm. Burial to be at the convenience of the family.
