David Eugene Moon Jr.

Retired Sergeant First Class David E. Moon Jr. passed away on July 16, 2026, at the age of 48. He was born in Germany on September 16, 1977, to the late David E. Moon Sr. (dec 2011) and Carol (Fontaine) Moon.

David leaves behind his beloved children, David E. Moon III, Skylar S. Moon, and Sophia R. Moon; his mother, Carol Moon; his sister, Melanie Moon and her partner Brian Huggerd; his brother, Steven Moon and his wife, Jessica; and his cherished grandson, David Moon IV. He is also survived by his uncles, Ronald Moon and his wife Marie Ann, James Moon, and Larry McElvaney; aunts, Stacey Thomas and her husband Cameron, Jennifer Sons and her husband Charlie, and Earline Cremeans; nieces, Amber Royster Mio and her husband Giovanni, Kelsey Moon, Caidence Moon, and Ellie Moon; nephew, Charlie McCollom; as well as several great-aunts and uncles, cousins, extended family members, and countless close friends.

David was received in heaven by his father, David E. Moon Sr.; his maternal grandparents, Armand and Arline (Ingram) Fontaine; his paternal grandparents, William and Betty (Brown) Moon; his nephew, Brayden Mio; and his best friend, Sarai Brown Alfred.

David was a proud member of the United States Army and served his country honorably, retiring as a Sergeant First Class. Throughout his life, David formed bonds with people that went far beyond ordinary friendship. He didn't really have what most people would call friends—they were his brothers and sisters, his family. Those who knew him often called him their "brother from another mother."

From a young age, David was surrounded by people who loved him as their own. As a teenager, he was blessed to have three mothers in his life: Mama Moon, Mama Cooper, and Mama Baker. His Army buddies were not simply fellow soldiers; they were his brothers. To David, family was not defined by blood alone. His family was made up of everyone who loved him, stood beside him, and shared a piece of life's journey with him.

David made a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Beneath his personality and the many stories he shared was a deeply kind heart. He was the type of person who would help anyone in need, often without hesitation or expecting anything in return. He had a way of making people feel like they belonged, and his ability to create bonds that lasted a lifetime was one of the things that made him so special.

David's memory will live on in the hearts of his children, grandson, family, brothers and sisters in life, Army family, and the many people whose lives he touched. Though he is deeply missed, the love he gave and the memories he created will remain forever.

David, you were never just a friend. You were a brother, a son, a father, a grandfather, and family to so many. You will be loved, remembered, and missed always.

Calling hours for David will be held from 4 - 6 PM on Wednesday, July 29 at the Church & Allen Funeral Home 136 Sachem St, Norwich. Following the calling hours will be a Funeral Home Service with Military Honors.
