OBITUARY
Diana C. Swinglehurst Stadtmiller
December 9, 1935 – January 22, 2013
Gales Ferry, CT – Diana C. Stadtmiller, 77, of 55 Hurlbutt Road, passed away suddenly on Tuesday afternoon, Jan 22, 2013. Diana was born in England on Dec 9, 1935 to Dr. Richard and Constance Swinglehurst. She was a 1953 graduate of the Paris Academy of Dressmaking in London, where she became an expert seamstress and designer, a craft she continued to pursue and explore her entire life. Her first husband, Michael T. Allen and second husband, William C. Stadtmiller, both predeceased her. She is survived by her two loving brothers Peter and his wife Mary, and Ricky and his wife Rosie, both residing in England. She leaves behind her three children, Richard and his wife Linda, Peter, and Nikki; three step-children Sue and her husband Doug, Jeff, and Mark; six grandchildren Ashley and her husband Nick, Eric, Jesse, Ian, Tanner, and Hannah; three nieces Samantha, Maddy, Joanna and their spouses; and three nephews Ian, Richard, Adam and their spouses. Diana was a long time Inn-Keeper at the beautiful Steamboat Inn located in Mystic, CT. She considered the owners and co-workers of the Inn part of her extended family. She loved working with the public and took great pride in everything she did, down to the smallest detail. Diana was also affectionately known as “Auntie Diner” to the children of her nieces and nephews in England. One of her great joys was picking up little treasures throughout the year to send to England at Christmas. She enjoyed showering the people she loved with “gifts of love”. Her face would light up with joy when she heard that her gifts of love had brought much happiness, smiles and laughter to the children. Diana (Mom) will be sorely missed by her family, friends, and all those touched by her grace. Go with the grace of God on the wings of angels Mom. Calling hours will be Sunday, 27 Jan, 2013 from 1:00 to 4:00pm at Church & Allen Funeral Home, 136 Sachem Street, Norwich, CT 06360. Online condolences at www.churchandallen.com.

Hi Mom, we've just confirmed a connection to your half-cousin (Ian Mackley) via the Internet... he and his family live in New Zealand. We're all thrilled to expand our family base and know you've had your fingers in all this orchestrating a reunion! I have to say the picture of Siena is like seeing you at that age. I think of you every day, and know you're spirit is always close by. Love, Rich

Dear Nikki,Peter,Rich and family, I meet your Mom when we worked together at the Mystic Seaport and from that moment on, we became great friends. As I read the messages in the guest book I realized how many people this beautiful soul touched...Diana loved the symbol of the sun and one day I remember asking her why she loved the Sun so much and she replied," It makes me happy! Diana's warmth and shining light of her soul embraced all of us. And that light will shine forever...Your in our prayers, DiAnn and Bob Morrison, Clayton, North Carolina

Diana was, at first, like another mother to me, then she was my boss, and finally, my friend. She was always ready to chat and offer a cup of tea, or a glass of wine! She will be missed, but I am thankful that she was part of my life for more than 40 years.

Dearest Rich, Peter, and Nikki,
Diana has always been such a big part of our hearts in England and I loved to listen to all of her stories. Diana had the kindest heart and such a beautiful spirit and was such fun to be with. I so wish that I could be more helpful in your time of loss, and I will be thinking of you all and Diana on Sunday. I aim to visit on Mother's Day to give you all a hug. I am going to miss Diana more than you know. My father, Peter, is shocked, and trying to be strong and brave and philosophical. I will be spending the day with him on Sunday, as I know he will find this very difficult, as will Ricky. David and I had such a wonderful holiday in Florida with Diana and Peter, who looked after us with such love.
I am going to miss Diana and how she brought us all together, and I hope the connection continues. David and I send you all our love at this very sad time.
May the gentle sun always shine on her.
Much love to you all,
Samantha Swinglehurst
