Obituary of Donald Frank Hargreaves
Donald Frank Hargreaves of Norwich, CT passed away on Friday, Dec 18, 2020 at Bayview Healthcare Waterford, CT after a lengthy battle with dementia. He was born in Norwich, CT on April 30,1933 to the late Frank and Dorothy Meliss (Shaw) Hargreaves. After graduating from Norwich Free Academy in 1951 he served in the US Army for 2 years returning home to marry his high school sweetheart Marjorie (Storms) Hargreaves on June 11, 1955. He was then employed by the New London Printing Co. for several years before joining the Servicemaster Hospital Corporation where he was a Regional Manager then becoming Area Manager covering New England. Don was a long time former member of the Central Baptist Church in Norwich where he served as Moderator and Deacon Emeritus. Currently he was a member of The Preston City Congregational Church. Don dearly loved his family and always put them first. He loved Gardner Lake, Siesta Key, FL, Colonial Williamsburg, donuts and a good laugh! Besides his loving wife of 65 years Donald is survived by his daughter Karen Hargreaves of Taftville, son Mark Hargreaves and his wife Laura of Norwich, daughter Lisa Converse and her husband Greg of Preston and grandchildren Emma Hargreaves, Nicole Dupuis, Michelene Dupuis and Cory Converse. He also leaves behind sisters Joyce Wilson of Charlton, MA and Judy Watson of Mebane, NC and brother William Hargreaves of Mystic, CT. He is predeceased by brothers in law Lester Wilson and Richard Watson and sister in law Henrietta (Penny) Hargreaves. The family would especially like to thank Bayview Healthcare for all their dedicated and loving care during this terribly challenging time. Due to Covid restrictions a private funeral will be held on Dec 30 1pm at the Preston City Congregational Church, burial to follow at Maplewood Cemetery Norwich, CT with full military honors. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Preston City Congregational Church or Bayview Healthcare Waterford, CT either “ Bayview Resident Council” or “Taking Care of Our Own” .
