

Norwich-Doris Wilson Dickinson, age 100, of Norwich, died December 22, 2017 at Harrington Court in Colchester. She was born in Worcester, Mass. May 12, 1917. Her mother was Elizabeth Jane Ward Wilson, her father was Frederick George James Wilson.
The family moved to Newington when she was about five years old and she went to the Newington schools. She graduated from New Britain High School. During World War II, she worked as a telephone operator at Southern New England Telephone Co. She was married to George F. Alexander, Raymond V. Congdon Jr. and Francis R. Dickinson. All predeceased her. While married to Raymond V. Congdon Jr., the family moved to Yantic, CT in 1963. She worked for 23 years at Norwich Free Academy in the cafeteria, known by students as the “French Fry Lady”. When she retired she did volunteer work. She worked for TVCAA as a foster grandparent at Irene Harris, Pooh Corner day-care center and Backus Hospital Day Care. She also volunteered for the Red Cross Blood Drives and United Community and Family Services. She was an active member of Grace Episcopal Church serving in many capacities including Sunday School teacher, President ECW, Outreach Coordinator, Altar Guild, Choir and Norwich Churches Together. She received the Human Rights Award in 2006 which recognized her as “Beacon of Light” for activities in the community.
She is survived by a daughter Irene Alexander Ricciuti and her husband James of Ft. Lauderdale, Fl., a daughter Elizabeth Congdon Baldwin and her husband John of Yantic, and a son Raymond Vere Congdon III and his wife Renate of North Windham. She also leaves behind grandchildren Mark Bjorkland, Daniel Bjorkland, Scott Baldwin, Katherine Andruskiewicz, six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husbands she was predeceased by two sisters and two brothers.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Episcopal Church in Yantic. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
