Doris Duca, 91, of Oakdale, CT passed peacefully January 2nd at Backus Hospital knowing how deeply loved she was by all of her Family, and Friends. She was born in Maine on September 5th, 1934 to Adelard, and Elizabeth Landry. She was the proud daughter of her French Canadian heritage, telling many stories in English, and French, all of her life.
Donald, and Doris Duca were married January 10th, 1953, and he left for the Korean War 10 days later. The Landry, and extended Duca Families were always close by.
She enjoyed her 6 sisters and brothers; her husband, Donald Duca, and her son, John Duca, wife Lisa, granddaughters Emilee & Nathanael Maloney, and children; Melissa & Mark Brown, and children; Kateyln & Delaney Duca-Secrest, and grandson Donald & Anna Duca.
Doris spent many years preparing meals for thousands of cadets at the Coast Guard Academy, (traveling to bid food service contracts in Washington State, North Dakota, and beyond, and training at the CIA culinary institute), and then Connecticut College.
Doris was a bold woman who enjoyed traveling around the world, playing bingo and running around the casinos with her sisters, and many, many friends. Above all that Doris held dear to her, she was a wonderful Memere who dedicated so much of her life to her four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Doris was so proud of her family, being the biggest cheerleader at every birthday, holiday, and get together that there ever was. She spent many weekends bringing her grandchildren goodies, hosting sleepovers, and cheering on her favorite basketball team with the grandchild that was luckiest to attend with her that week. Memere will be fondly remembered for her love of sarcasm, family, travel, and bingo !
Her favorite adventures were meals like celebrations, day trips, Saturday card games at the sister's houses, and trips with her sisters, nieces, and nephews, and their Families.
Many Thanks to her sisters, nieces, and nephews, Liz, Paul, Dianne, and Families, and Friends for the travel adventures.
Her husband Donald was her daily caregiver over the last two years as she faced health, and memory challenges. Her Spirit was Joie devivre - love of life, and his Raison D'etre - reason for being, which was Family, that complimented each other.
Donations in her memory can be for St Patrick's Cathedral School, American Cancer Society or St. Jude's Children's Hospital
