

Frances B. Ogulnick, known to all as “Fran,” died at home after a brief illness on January 29, 2013. She was born in Norwich on September 7, 1924, daughter of the late Herman A. and Lena (Landman) Bruckner. She was a 1941 graduate of Norwich Free Academy and earned a bachelors degree from Syracuse University in 1945.
On October 6, 1946 she married local jeweler, Harry J. Ogulnick, at the Lighthouse Inn in New London. They remained married for 55 years until Harry’s death in 2001.
Fran is survived by her daughter, Susan Schaeffer, son-in-law Bruce, and granddaughter Sara, of New York City; son Herman, daughter-in-law Cindy, of Pittsfield, MA, and grandsons David and Michael of Boston, MA; daughter Nancy Trostler, son-in-law Bob of Norwich, grandson Philip of Los Angeles, and granddaughter Lauren of Maui, Hawaii; and son, Robert ,of Los Angeles.
One of the things Fran will always be remembered for is her love of books. In addition to being a voracious reader, she served on the board of the Otis Library. She also took great pleasure in listening to jazz, doing crossword puzzles and going to the beach.
Funeral arrangements will be private. Family and friends will gather for a celebration of Fran’s life at the family home, 8 Montgomery Lane in Norwich, on Saturday, February 2nd from 12 to 5.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Otis Library, 261 Main St., Norwich or Hospice Southeastern Connecticut, 227 Dunham St., Norwich.
