Born on August 8, 1955, in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late George and Rita (Strano) Geist.
Georgann’s lifelong love story began one summer during school vacation at the local Clay Banks swimming hole. It was there that she and her sister, Loree, crossed paths with Rodney Reiter. Georgann was smitten from the start, as was Rodney who even agreed to wear a green suit to their high school prom to perfectly match Georgann’s eyes and her favorite color.
The high school sweethearts were married on October 25, 1975. As a Navy wife, Georgann lovingly accompanied Rodney to postings in San Diego, California, and Norfolk, Virginia, before the couple ultimately settled and made their permanent home in Norwich, Connecticut.
Georgann became a familiar presence throughout the Norwich community. After years of maintaining local homes, she joined the staff at the Norwich Free Academy. Working in the school cafeteria, her smile brought daily warmth to countless students and colleagues alike. Outside of work, Georgann treasured time spent with her friends. She especially loved their trips to the casino, where she enjoyed attending concerts, trying her luck, and sharing endless laughter and making memories.
She is survived by her devoted husband of nearly 51 years, Rodney Reiter; her son, Eric Reiter, and his wife, Jennifer (Henry), of Saco, Maine; her sister, Loree (Geist) Danch, and her husband, Christopher, of DuBois, Pennsylvania; two nieces; and a large circle of extended family and dear friends who will miss her deeply.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
