

George was born in Pinehurst, North Carolina on January 16, 1954 to the late Henry and Odessa (Russell) Cagle. George was a hard worker from the start. At 12 years old, he began working at the Universal Food Store (Red's) on Laurel Hill and continued working there even as he began working at Electric Boat. He worked at Electric Boat starting out as an electrician and then progressed to becoming a planner. After 25 years, he retired from EB.
George graduated from Norwich Free Academy in 1973. While at NFA, he was a tenacious competitor in both basketball and track. He held a long standing record in the triple jump that was only recently broken. George had a unique style and flare for clothes. He also had creative moves on the dance floor which were honored by his classmates by voting him "Class Best Dancer". George was a regular patron of the American Legion Post 4 on Laurel Hill in Norwich where he was an avid pool player and played in a local league.
George had a great love and affection for his family especially his young nieces and nephews. Whether at a family gathering or when they came by to visit, George just lit up with a smile and a warm welcoming greeting. George will stay alive in the memories of his family and all those who loved him. He will be missed.
He is survived by several brothers and sisters; Ernie (Jerrilyn) Cagle of Jewett City, Bernie (Julie) Cagle of Norwich, Henry “Tweetsie” (Sharon) Cagle of Norwich, Ron Cagle of New London, Mazie Augmon of Plainfield, Kenvis (Terry) Cagle of Iowa, Michael (Michelle) Cagle of Norwich, Harold "Teddy" Cagle of Sacramento CA, Diane Strong of Mystic, Darlene (Dwayne) Burgess of Boston, MA, Lisa Cagle of Groton, Michelle (Eugene) Brown of Norwich and Delores Cagle of Norwich and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, February 10, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Church & Allen Funeral Home, 136 Sachem Street, Norwich with calling hour from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial is private.
