

Funeral service will be held at St. Patrick’s Cathedral 211 Broadway Norwich, CT on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. with Monsignor Anthony Rosaforte officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Norwich, CT. Visitation will be held at the Labenski Funeral Home 107 Boswell Ave Norwich, CT from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 1, 2015.
George was born in Canterbury CT to Signorino and Rose (Ciminita) Salpietro] on May 16, 1923. He joined the U.S. Army in February of 1943, where he served in Roma Arno, Naples Foggia, and Normandy until his honorable discharge in November 1945. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, American Campaign Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He is a past member of the Norwich Lions Club.
He was married to Antoinette Normand on April 10th, 1948 and was happily married for 67 years. His greatest joy in life was his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who they affectionately called “Ta.” At any family gathering you would be sure hear the laughter of children yelling, “Ta come get me” and Ta come play with us.” That is something we will all surely miss.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his son Gary and is wife Georgene of Hiram, Maine, his son George and his wife Marie of Colchester., his son David and his wife Marie of Norwich, four grandchildren, August Michaud and her husband Steve of Colchester, Lance Salpietro and his wife Sheri of Griswold, Stacy Salpietro-Babb and her husband Wesley of Brattleboro, VT, Antoinette Salpietro of Danielson as well as seven great grandchildren. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by three brothers Joseph, Salvatore (Pete), and Thomas and four sisters Francine, Sarah, Anna, and Mary.
