Grace Avery

Grace O. Avery (Lockwood) age 82 of Norwich passed away peacefully Feb. 6, 2016 at Beechwood Convalescent Home. She was born in N. Stonington Oct. 15, 1933 daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Peter Lockwood. Grace is survived by thirteen children; eight daughters: Grace Morin (Art) of Maine, Rhonda Thayer (Jerry) of Dayville, Diane Meriwether of Norwich who she resided with, Debra Avery of Norwich, Denise Denis of New York, Carol Williams (Scott) of Norwich, Sheila Rusiecki (Mike) of New York, Janice Beauregard (Randy) of Massachusetts, five sons; James (Sally) of Mystic, Frederick (Ann Marie) of Texas, Dennis of Jewett City, Thomas (Nadine) of Moosup, Ricky (Tammy) of Ledyard, and a stepson Denny Avery of Willimantic. She was also survived by numerous grandchildren including Michael P. Meriwether of Somers Ct., and numerous great grandchildren whom she loved dearly. She also leaves three sisters Betty, Petra, and June all of Florida and one brother Stanley of Jewett City. She is predeceased by three grandsons, Jerry Jr., Joshua, and John and one great granddaughter Holly, also the love of her life who passed away in August 2007 Thomas Main Sr. She was a loving Mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family and close friends. Her favorite pastime was knitting. She made sure that the children had hats and gloves and she always made sweater sets for all baby arrivals. Calling hours will be Sat. Feb. 13, 2016 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at Church and Allen Funeral Home 136 Sachem St. Norwich followed by a reception at the American Legion 457 Laurel Hill Ave. Norwich. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at a later date.
