Gwendolyn Clegg Johnson

Norwich-Gwendolyn Grace Johnson, 81, of Norwich, passed away on November 28, 2013, surrounded by her family. She was born July 11, 1932 in Providence, RI to the late John and Eva Clegg. She married her husband Frederick W. Johnson Jr. in Pawtucket, RI. He predeceased her. She grew up in Riverside, RI with her five brothers Bob, John, Dick, Bill and Wally as well as her half sister Dorothy who all predecease her. She graduated from East Providence High School and was a member of the American Guild of Variety Artists in her youth. She spent most of her adult life in Norwich and Uncasville, CT until retiring to Florida. She moved back to Norwich to be with her family. She loved doing ceramics, sewing, gardening and socializing with friends. She belonged to the order of the Eastern Star, Sachem Chapter #57, American Legion Auxiliary and women of the Moose. She is survived by her sons Frederick W. Johnson III and his wife Claudette of Lisbon, CT., Robert F. Johnson and his wife Janet of Norwich, CT., three grandchildren Frederick W. Johnson IV of Griswold, CT., Kerri and Jillian Johnson of Norwich, CT and numerous nieces and nephews. A Masonic Service will be held on Friday at 7:00 p.m. at Labenski Funeral Home, 107 Boswell Avenue, Norwich. In lieu of flowers donations in her memory can be made to Hospice of S.E.C.T., 227 Dunham St., Norwich, CT 06360. At our last visit with her she was laughing and content, It was hard to believe what she was telling us about her health. Our blessings go out to all of the family.
