NORWICH – Harry E. Ruley Jr., 76, entered his eternal rest at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford, MA on March 12, 2014.

He was born in Norwich, CT on July 4, 1937 to the late Harry and Dorothy Ruley Sr. Harry served in the US Army until his Honorable Discharge. He worked as a truck driver throughout most of his life but had many passions including the NAACP and boxing.

He is survived by 1 son, 6 daughters, 2 brothers, many grand and great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Alice, 2 sons, 2 brothers and 2 sisters.

Memorial Services will be held at Church & Allen Funeral Home, 136 Sachem St., Norwich, CT on Sunday at 1pm. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. A Calling hour will be from noon until the time of the memorial service.

Donations in Harry’s memory may be made to the NAACP, Norwich Chapter.

Harry was a wealth of unselfish information when I wrote my book, Discovering Ellis Ruley, Crown Publishing. He was a colorful character, with a thousand stories. Much of Norwich's mid to late 20th century history, included Harry's unique sigature on a long list. He will be missed dearly by those with a sense of history, irony and change...
