

She was born in Norwich on December 3, 1918 to the late Leonora and Irving S. Button. She lived in Norwich all of her life and attended local schools. She was a 1937 graduate of NFA. While at NFA, she played violin in the orchestra. She was also part of the Norwich Symphony Orchestra after graduating from NFA. After high school, she ran an office for Mr. Raucher who owned a venetian blind manufacturing company in the Greenville section of Norwich. She did everything in the office from accounting to receptionist to typing. Her pay was $10 per week. Helen then went to work for the US Government at the Submarine Base in Groton for over 35 years. Her job was financial editing. She kept track of all of the stock going in and out of the base. She married her husband James McGuire during World War II.
She is survived by her daughter Patricia Covino and her husband Eric of Preston, by 2 grandchildren Ernest Covino and James Covino, and by her great grandchild Brendan Covino, whom she greatly enjoyed. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her daughter Leonora McGuire, sisters Olive Derouin, Cora Mankowski, Ethel Ryan, and Edna Majcher.
There are no calling hours. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 2, 2016 at the United Congregational Church of Norwich, 87 Broadway, Norwich CT 06360 at 10 am, meeting directly at the church. Burial will follow in Pachaug Cemetery in Griswold.
