Inez was born in Bozrah on September 15, 1940 to the late Lyle and Mary (Abel) Crouch. Inez was a longtime resident of Bozrah until her graduation from Nursing School; upon which, she met and married the love of her life, Charles La Chance Jr. who survives her, in September 1962. After the wedding, Inez traveled all over the United States as a Navy wife, gave birth to five children, and enjoyed several careers: nursing, interior design and her own business ‘I.M. Needlework’s.’
Upon Charlie’s retirement from the U.S. Navy they returned home to Connecticut where Inez pursued her passion in design and graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design. She became a master seamstress and corporate designer for John Myers until her retirement.
Inez was active in Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Wilderness Camp, the Pequotsepos Nature Center and helping others in need. It was also not unusual for her to assist other children in need. She donated numerous hours to charity making blankets for the Veterans, hats for Chemotherapy patients, and layette sets for premature babies just to name a few.
With Inez’s love of family, she would tell stories of her family history which enabled the past to come alive and connect to the future. She was also known for her passion and skill as a longtime genealogist. It was her overflowing passion for life that also led to her joy of nature, historical research with her children and grandchildren, reading and long walks.
Inez leaves behind her husband Charles La Chance Jr. of 51 years, two sons: Robert La Chance of Norwich and Charles E. La Chance and his wife Deborah of Norwich and three daughters: Marie Perrin and her husband Mark of Preston, Cheryl Sebastian and her husband Richard of Norwich, and JoAnn Beguhl and her husband Keith of Norwich and eight grandchildren: Kelly, Thomas, Ashley, Lauren, Evan, Renee, Kyle and Kenneth.
Inez also leaves two sisters: Jane Ann Tatro of Bozrah and Alice Mokrzewski and her husband Stanley of Bozrah, a sister-in-law: Joan Crouch of VT; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition she also leaves her Aunt and namesake Inez (Abel) Lattimore of Stonington. Inez was predeceased by her brother Lyle A. Crouch.
The family will be holding a Memorial Service on Saturday, October 26th at the Bozrah Center Congregational Church, 23 Bozrah St., Bozrah CT at 3 p.m. A pot luck reception will follow the service. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
