
He was born in Brooklyn, New York, a son of Isaac and Henrietta Zuckerbraun, and came to Jewett City in 1929, when his parents established Zuckerbraun's Department Store on North Main Street.
Drafted into the Army after his freshman year at Boston University, he served several years at a U.S. base in British Guyana, then returned to the university after the war to complete studies for a degree in business administration. He was a member of Phi Epsilon Pi fraternity.
He took over management of the family business when his father retired, and remained active until his own semi-retirement three years ago.
He was a member of the board of directors of the Jewett City Trust Company for many years and served on the town board of finance. He was an active member of Anshei Israel Synagogue in Lisbon until it closed in 2005. He then became a member of the Beth Jacob Synagogue in Norwich.
He leaves a brother and sister-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Leonard Zuckerbraun, of Preston, a sister, Florence Polens of Stafford Springs, nephews Joel, David and Kurt Zuckerbraun and Jared Polens, and nieces, Anita Rees and Rachel Polens.
Graveside services will be held Monday at 11am at Hebrew Benevolent Cemetery #2, RT12, Preston, CT.
Shiva will be observed at the home of Dr. Zuckerbraun, 10 Amos Road Preston on Monday and Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Beth Jacob Synagogue in Jerome's memory.
