John Thomas Barry

Barry- John Thomas Barry Jr. 84 of Norwich died Wednesday Oct. 15, 2014 at Backus Hospital. He was the widower of Marian (Ryan) Barry who predeceased him in 2006 after almost 50 years of marriage. John was born in Norwich, and was a graduate of Suffield Academy, Providence College, and UCONN where he obtained his Masters Degree. He was employed as an educator for over 30 years in the Groton School System until his retirement. He was a member of the Mohegan Striders, and was an avid runner, finishing the Boston Marathon multiple times. John is survived by his sons, John H. Barry of Norwich, William J. Barry of New York and Old Saybrook, and James T. Barry of Stamford. He also leaves his loving grandchildren, Connor Barry, Ryan Barry, Sarah Barry, and Liam Barry. Calling hours will be Sunday Oct. 19, 2014 from 5-7 p.m. at the Church and Allen Funeral Home 136 Sachem Street Norwich. Funeral Services will be Monday Oct. 20, 2014 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
