John L. DeLucia Sr.

DeLucia- John L. DeLucia Sr. 95, of Norwich died Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at Yale New Haven Hospital. He was born in Groton, CT son of the late Nicholas and Julia (Lamparelli) DeLucia. On February 2, 1948 at St. Patrick Cathedral, he was united in marriage to Angela (Vasington) DeLucia who predeceased him on October 21, 2009.

Mr. DeLucia was a WWII Army Veteran and was employed as a crew leader for the State of Connecticut DOT until his retirement. After his retirement he was employed at St. Patrick Cathedral in Norwich where he was a long time communicant.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who supported his children and grandchildren in all of their school and sports activities. He coached Little League and Senior League baseball for several years. He enjoyed dancing, gardening, bowling and watching collegiate and professional sports. He was a member of the Norwich Elks, the Italian Society, Knights of Columbus and American Legion.

He is survived by three sons and their spouses, John L. DeLucia, Jr. and his wife Mary Elizabeth, Robert A. DeLucia and his wife Maureen and Paul DeLucia and his wife Cynthia, all of Norwich. He also leaves his eight grandchildren, Jennifer, Timothy, Nicholas, Katie, Christopher, Jeffrey, Wesley, and Geoffrey, as well as five great grandchildren; Hazel, Tanner, Braiden, Madison, and Caroline. Besides his wife he was predeceased by two brothers, Peter DeLucia, and Joseph DeLucia and six sisters, Lena Pace, Natalie Renaldi, Frances DeVanno, Mary Sforza, Josephine Sas, and Cecelia Thomas.

Visitation will be Sunday, May 3, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Labenski Funeral Home , 107 Boswell Avenue, Norwich. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 4, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Cathedral, Norwich assembling directly at the Cathedral. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Norwich. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his name may be made to St. Patrick School, 211 Broadway, Norwich, CT 06360.
