

Joe was the Advertising Director of Vality, in Gales Ferry, where he created the notable logo for the store, introduced innovative events like modeling classes, the helicopter arrival of Santa Claus and promotion of artistic competitions and shows.
Joe was an active member of the community, donating his artistic talents and time to charitible and civic causes. He designed all the promotional materials for the Backus Hospital Follies, helped fundraising, contributed to the Norwich City/Town issue and read the newspaper on the radio to benefit blind listeners.
Joe attended the City College of New York, was a member of the Art Students' League of New York and served in the U.S.Navy.
He is survived by his wife, Nymph Barbera of 61 years, daughter MiMi Swerdlow, her children Ali and Adam, and by his son Joseph Barbera.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday at 2pm at Church & Allen Funeral Home, 136 Sachem St., Norwich, CT. Burial will be on Thursday at 2pm in Elm Grove Cemetery, Mystic, CT with Military Honors. There are no calling hours.
