Joseph was born March 24, 1934 in Cairo, Egypt, the son of the late Mourad and Lucie (Tawil) Haroun. He was a graduate of Cairo University, where he received his Civil Engineering Degree. He emigrated to the U.S. in 1959, where he attended Case Institute of Technology in Cleveland, OH, where he earned his Master’s Degree in Engineering Mechanics.
He married Sara (Sciammas) Haroun in August of 1963. She survives him.
He had worked at General Dynamics/Electric Boat as a Structural Engineering Specialist, working on the 688, Trident and Seawolf class nuclear submarines. He retired in 1996.
Joseph was a member of Beth Jacob Synagogue and was a Board Member of the Norwich Hebrew Benevolent Society. He enjoyed traveling extensively with his wife, sons and grandchildren. He enjoyed fixing things and painting. Above all else, he especially loved spending time with his six grandchildren.
In addition to his loving wife Sara, Joseph is survived by his two children Robert Haroun and his wife Julie and Dr. Raymond Haroun and his wife Dr. Melanie Haroun, by his brother Benoit Haroun (Switzerland), Shalom Haroun (Israel) and Nellie Dekel (Israel) and by his six grandchildren, Daniel, Jessica, Annie, Jonathon, Jacob and Katie Haroun.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers Elie Haroun, Victor Haroun and Jack Haroun.
A funeral services will be held Friday, June 24, 2022 at the Beth Jacob Synagogue, 400 New London Turnpike, Norwich CT 06360 at 10:30 am. Burial will follow at the Norwich Hebrew Benevolent Cemetery #3, Middle Rd. In Preston.
