OBITUARY

Katharine L. Bialowas

October 15, 1945October 27, 2018

Katharine L. Bialowas, 73, passed away Saturday, October 27th after a long fight against various illnesses. After leaving her profession as a travel agent to raise her three children (as well as being a second Mom to many of the kids ‘up on the hill’), she reentered the workplace to care for those who could not care for themselves as a home health care worker. Katharine’s generosity, compassion, and Catholic faith guided her through her life and made an impression on all who knew her. She was born to the late Robert and Kathleen Bradley, on October 15th, 1945 and was raised in Worcester, MA before moving to Norwich and graduating from Norwich Free Academy in 1963. She met her husband, Gerald Bialowas, and they were lovingly together for 50 years. There wasn’t a crossword puzzle, cryptogram, or jeopardy question she couldn’t solve. She had a passion for animals, caring for her own (Peanut the cat), and donating to a variety of charities focused on caring for vulnerable animals. Known to all as “Squiggles” or “Squiggs”, she rooted for her beloved Red Sox even in her final days. Katharine’s love and spirit will be missed immensely by those who survive her, especially her beloved husband Gerald Bialowas, her children, Eric Bialowas of Norwich, Sean Bialowas of Pawcatuck and Krista Bialowas of Somerville MA, brother, James Bradley and sister-in- law Perla Bradley of Forest Hills, NY. She will also be missed by her son-in-law, Frank Malsbenden, Meagan and Michael Keefe, her cousins, nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 1st from 5PM until 7PM at the Labenski Funeral Home, 107 Boswell Avenue in Norwich. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, November 2nd at 10AM at Sacred Heart Church, 56 West Town Street in Norwich. Interment will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery 815 Boswell Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations in Katharine’s memory may be made to any of the variety of charities she gave so generously to including: Salvation Army, St. Judes, National Wildlife Federation, CT Food Bank, World Wildlife Fund, CT Humane Society, and the American Cancer Society.
