When Kevin  finished school and started his first job .. I received a beautiful flower arrangement (wonderful surprise) this  continued  so I called the florist to see if they had made a mistake ... NOPE . was a weekly order .. so I went to florist and cancelled the order and instead picked up only fresh flowers (too many vases) for weeks. Still makes me smile!

I sadly learned today of Kevin's passing.  He was a kind and gentle soul and always a friend.
Rest in peace Kevin.

Kevin was a humble man despite his experience and technical position ..I was talking to my wife on this very day about how expert he is and how he handled the issues out of the box ..I was searching for him in LinkedIn later to be found he had passed away .

I'm deeply saddened and burdened at heart , he might have not known me probably but i know him as a good senior , a good mentor , a troubleshooter last but not least a humble and great human .
I wish for his soul to be in peace and prayers to his family members to cope up with this heavy loss

To me Kevin lives on through his books and wisdom through me and many others...I'll be reading his books forever as I'm alive ,



It is very unfortunate and heart breaking to hear the loss of an amazing, humble, cordial and genius colleague. He was a major asset to The Hartford and everybody who worked with him knew he was a genius. I have worked with Kevin from 2007 onwards on numerous occasions and projects. He was a generous and a kind person and was always there to assist and guide his team members  let it be during late night hours. Most of the folks at work knew that Kevin will have answers to the most of Oracle Performance issues let it be in any application. His presence meant that the issue at hand will be solved and an assurance that the solution would have exceeded all expectations. He always had a positive attitude and worked methodically solving the issues as he used to call himself a "Old School guy".  He personified collaboration and partnership. He would share intimate details about himself and his "Gin tonic" making at home. He was very fond of his paw "buddies".  He liked the Indian food, I did get him Rice items from home few times and he wanted to know about the spices that were used in the dish. I will surely miss him.  My condolences to his family, may his soul rest in peace. 

I'd only spoken with Kevin about a handful times last year, and yet in each one of those meetings, his knowledge was enlightening, and no sequence of queries too complex. Unlike almost anyone else I've ever met, he reflected a demeanor that made you embrace your curiosity, as complex or unapproachable as a problem might have seemed. It was simply infectious. 

My condolences to his family, may he rest in peace. 

Kevin and I were coworkers at The Hartford.  We were both Database Administrators in the same organization.  Kevin was one of the most intellectual people I've ever been around, but he also had a passion for sharing his vast technical ability with his coworkers.  Not in a "I'm smarter than you way", but in a way that made you feel enlightened and eager to learn.  In a world that moves so fast and where so many of us are always looking ahead to that next item on our list of things to do, Kevin lived in the moment and that shined through every day.  Kevin has inspired me to slow down an appreciate what I have and more simply put, appreciate life.  He will be missed. 

My first contact with Kevin was over a conference call to resolve a nasty performance problem with an application about twelve years ago.   Somebody on the call had requested that Kevin be invited to join  and help with resolution.  I thought to myself, "this Kevin fellow must know what he is doing - he's never even had anything to do with this application!".  


Kevin did join the call and, within five minutes of receiving a copy of the troublesome code, proceeded to analyze and discuss his findings over the phone.  About ten minutes from the time he joined the call, he had a demonstrable fix for the problem.  I was stumped, clearly an understatement, and realized that the person who requested Kevin's presence certainly knew this genius very well!


His big heart, great humor and generosity with his time (plus, he also gifted me a copy of his tome on Oracle SQL Performance Tuning) are endearing and enduring qualities that immediately come to mind.  Enduring qualities indeed, because these are never lost when answering a higher calling.


May his path be blessed.  Amen!


As a colleague of Kevin's it was an honor working with him and he was famous for his database skills, knowledge, and his personality. He solved problems other could not, and he was always learning and growing his skillset. I will miss him.

He is a generous and a kind person and is always there to assist and guide team members/customers. Every time I come across Kevin's name, the first thing that I always remember him saying to me in 2012 "Hey when you are young, spend time with your family & kids. Very sad to hear this news.  Our working relation with Kevin goes back to several years. He had the same level of calmness every time.  Always willing to help no matter how long it takes.  Such a great helping personality and best in what he was doing.  We miss him dearly.  My deepest condolences to his family. 

I am saddened to hear about Kevin. I worked with him on a resolution of a couple of challenging performance issues. He knew Oracle Tuning inside out and he was very generous with his knowledge.  He took time to explain complex  things in such a way that it can be understood easily by anyone. He was an 'Oracle Performance Tuning Guru' as far as I am concerned.  He was kind hearted and treated everyone with respect. It's a Big Loss to The Hartford and and also for his Family I am sure. I am sure they needed him more upstairs to work on tuning and  fixing issues. Will miss you Kevin.

He was a big teddy bear.  Generous with his time, always up for a good challenge.  He was a genius who never would shy away from a problem and was always generous with his knowledge and willing to teach and share.   I am lucky to have known him.  
Rest In Peace, Dear Kevin. 

From childhood Kevin had a kind, gentle, spirit; ever-searching to help others with whatever difficulty presented. His presence brought a calm reassurance that all would be well. He will be remembered always in our hearts! Such an honor to have known him as a part of our extended family. He will be remembered for the treasure he was! 


Kevin has always been there whenever we need him to solve any performance issues. He is such nice person to work with and very humble. saddened to hear that he is no more. My deepest condolences to his family. 

I am extremely sad to hear the news of Kevin’s passing away. Kevin was the smartest Oracle performance tuning expert I ever came across in my life. He was very generous with his time. He would spend hours explaining the intricacies of performance tuning. Kevin shared with me so many things going on in his life. The powers above were unfair in taking Kevin away so soon. ‘The Hartford’ will miss Kevin a lot. I so wish I was there for him.  I will remember Kevin for the rest of my life for his generosity. I've shared many late night conference calls with Kevin as he partnered with my teams at all hours of the night, on the weekends and even holidays to work with us to solve problems.  He always had a positive attitude, and methodically worked through issues.  He was mindful to teach others and was an expert in his craft.

I'll never forget our discussions of our favorite tea. We'd be on a call at 2 am and compete with each other on who had the better cup of tea.  This went on for years.

I am so shocked and sad to hear this and feel horrible for Kevin's family. I cant imaging this. Kevin was the most unpretentious, kind,  generous, cordial person I knew at The Hartford. He was always personable, funny  and generous with his time. I have deep respect for his commitment to understanding the inner workings  of Oracle. He was a major asset to The Hartford. I know he will be missed by all. I send my most sincere condolences to his family.

I met Kevin the first week he was at the HIG and thought "who the heck is this guy", but he had a good beard, looked like he enjoyed a good meal and turns out he was a pretty good story teller.  
We became good friends working in Hartford Specialty, much of that work done over Chinese take out in the wee hours of the morning. Just about anything cool I learned about Oracle I learned from Kevin.  Miss him already.

I am shocked and saddened to learn that we have lost Kevin. He was what I would consider an Oracle genius. There was no query too complex or hairy for Kevin to decipher and tune. He wrote the book on tuning, literally! And he gave me a free copy. Because that's the kind of guy he was. Not only incredibly capable, but so giving of his time and talent. But what I loved most was that he was a fellow animal lover. The last time we spoke, we shared about our grief over losing a pet. I enjoyed when his dog got in on our calls! We will miss him immeasurably. 

                                            Kevin-The humble genius: 
We were in the same team for 5 years and Kevin was one of the people who brightened up any meeting or room they walked into. 
Technically, he was best of the best (I called him the one with the Elder Wand) but I loved how he took time to teach us his skills. He would spend 5 hours to create a document about a problem he solved 2 years ago and would take extra effort to make us understand the solution. He had his way with words, technical and otherwise, and it was always a pleasure listening to him.

Personally, he was a great conversationalist. He would share intimate details about himself and was an avid listener. He told me stories about a pet squirrel he used to carry in his pocket and that he used to buy best bird seeds to make sure his backyard is full of birds.
I won his book in a quiz and even though I don't work with Oracle anymore, it still is on my book shelf, and will always be.
Rest in peace buddy, you will be missed!

I'm deeply saddened by the dismissal of Kevin Meade. He was a wonderful human and helped me a lot at work. He was very knowledgeable, yet humble. His kindness towards his co-workers will be always be remembered. He will live in our memories forever.


Though I was not involved in day to day work with Kevin, he for sure have made impact on me with his sea of knowledge. 
He always have came up with creative solution for challenges we had in our application. He became our go to guy in very short time after the  first interaction with him. We will miss him! 


I truly enjoyed every opportunity that I had to work with Kevin. I learned a lot. He was the best.

I had the pleasure of working with Kevin last year. He was kind and pleasant to work with. I was sadden to hear of his passing. He will be greatly be missed. Our sincere condolences to his family and friends. May he rest in  eternal peace. 

I got to know Kevin while working with him at The Hartford.  To say that he was held in high esteem as a coworker would be an understatement.  Kevin was always the person you wanted working on your issue or project and he was always the one that took on the most complex or most critical problems.  He was almost a legend.  He made everyone around him better, always taking the time to explain, teach and mentor.  

As incredible as he was at his job, how he went about it  was what made all the difference in the many lives he touched at work.   He was funny, patient, practical and supportive.  Kevin didn't come to the office much but one of my favorite memories is a trip to Five Guys for a little impromptu break.  It's a fond memory and one we would often joke about.  

May you rest in peace my friend.  You will be sincerely missed.  






Kevin was a close work colleague of mine or buddy as he would call me.   He was a kind and gentle man.  I worked with him for over 11 years.  We would work together on complex issues and it was simply amazing and a real pleasure to see how he figured things out.  I often felt like I was just along for the ride.  In my eyes he was a genius. Teddy in the pictures, was also a part of our work calls, he loved Teddy.

I was lucky enough to work with Kevin and got a chance to see what a great man he was. Kevin had a tremendous impact on all who got to know him and i had great experience on working with him many day and night on many technical issues and his cool and fun loving attitude and Spontaneous jokes were always remains in my memory . I will miss him with all my heart  and i always looked up him for inspiration. May his soul rest in peace in heaven.

I vividly remember the first time I met him. Some family members were determining what my brother and I should call him and Mémère (Elaine). “Pépère” was the name chosen. That moment was the seed that grew into a strong bond between us. I shared countless moments with him, from attending baseball games to even finding a fortune cookie wrapper filled only with air! I love you lots, Pépère. Words cannot describe how much I miss you.

One of MANY smile memories ..During church services one Sunday,  Kevin and his twin brother, Kenneth, (4 years old) caused quite a commotion as they crawled under the pews  from front of church until they reached their mom in the rear .. so gave them a hug and told them to go back... YEP, crawled under the pews again until they got back in their seat.  Sure  do love those sons of mine.

I will remember Kevin as a generous man with a fun sense of humor. He was always so ready to help others. He will be sadly missed by our whole family. 
Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he Rest In Peace. Amen.
